Tobago is renowned for two things, Relaxation & Diving. The Island doesn't have factories or refineries, but we don't think you'll mind, because Tobago is a proud provider of Paradise.
Tobago's History
Columbus first reached Trinidad and Tobago on his third voyage in 1498. Tobago was 'discovered' by the English in 1508. The Spanish, Dutch, French and British all fought for it until it was ceded to the English in 1814. In 1962 both islands gained their independence becoming a republic in 1976.
The islands are the southernmost of the Caribbean Islands. Tobago contains many idyllic, easily accessible beaches, stunning coral reefs and the oldest protected rainforest in the Western Hemisphere
Tobago has some of the Caribbean's best bird watching. Reptile-lovers can see speckled caimans near the Hillsborough Dam or the peaceful and majestic Boa Constrictor in the Rain Forest. Manta Rays frequently appear in the summer off the north end of the island. From April to July, leatherback turtles lumber ashore at night to lay eggs on the island's west coast beaches
Weather
Balmy winter highs range from 75 to 85°F (30°C), summers just a few degrees warmer. Wet sunshine between October and November. Best of all the island lies beyond the usual hurricane paths
Store Bay is a perpetual beach party, full of food stalls and craft kiosks. The privately owned Pigeon Point Beach is a postcard-perfect stretch of white coral sand, limped water, and arching palm trees. From both, glassbottom-boat rides go to Buccoo Reef. Only a 15-minute drive from the Donkey Cart. Get a chance to help pulling fishing seines with the locals at King's Bay, or play Swiss Family Robinson right where it was filmed, at palm-fringed Bacolet Beach (at the Old Donkey Cart House)
Mount Irvine Bay (just 15 minutes away) offers excellent bathing, snorkelling and water sports. Tennis can be played at the nearby Mount Irvine Golf Hotel. Daily excursions to Buccoo Reef and the only all night beach party 'Sunday School' at Buccoo Bay is a five minutes drive away
Golf is a must. For beginners the Pro makes you feel like a pro. The hilly 72-par-course, designed and opened in 1968 by John D. Harris, is one of the top courses of the Caribbean. In past years it hosted the annual Johnny Walker Golf Tournament, with Colin Montgomery or Sam Torrance having participated.
Half Moon Blue hotel at the donkey cart house is one of its kind! The daily catches drawn by the fishermen at dawn at Bacolet Bay are part of the local and international cuisine. Garden fresh produce, seafood platters and home-made bread and pastas are among a few of the choices on the à la Carte menu.
